Internships

KCPT Intern Requirements

  • Open only to students enrolled in an accredited college or university or recently graduated.
  • Hours per week are negotiable, though we prefer interns who can work five half days or two to three 8-hour days per week (M-W-F, T/Th, etc.) We will work with schools for students wishing to receive credit, although receiving credit for the internship is not required.
  • Internships are unpaid.
  • We are currently seeking energetic, qualified candidates for the following three internships to begin work immediately:

Communications Internship 1

Please list your qualifications based on:

  • Assist the communications director and vice president in various aspects
  • Write, edit and proof written materials intended for all media
  • Assist with planning, promotion and publicity of the station, our programs and events Work on special projects as assigned
  • Assist with research, reporting and data analysis
  • Respond to employee, viewer and vendor questions and requests
  • Conduct administrative duties as assigned
  • Perform related duties and special projects as assigned

Skills Preferred:

  • Self-starter capable of working independently
  • Excellent writing, editing and proofing skills
  • Experience working with both PC and Mac operating systems
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Solid understanding of marketing communication principles
  • Basic understanding of design principles
  • Major in Journalism, Communications or related field

Online Communications Internship 2

Please list your qualifications based on:

  • Assist the communications director, web editor and vice president in various aspects
  • Write, edit and proof written materials intended for online media, including KCPT.org, Facebook, Twitter and more
  • Assist with planning, promotion and publicity of the station, our programs and events via online media
  • Work on special projects as assigned
  • Assist with research, reporting and data analysis
  • Respond to employee, viewer and vendor questions and requests
  • Conduct administrative duties as assigned
  • Perform related duties and special projects as assigned

Skills preferred:

  • Self-starter capable of working independently and making good online decisions
  • Excellent writing, editing and proofing skills; understanding of design principles
  • Knowledge of HTML and experience with Dreamweaver or similar software
  • Excellent customer service skills and decision-making skills for online communication
  • Solid understanding of online media, including websites, Facebook, Twitter and others
  • Major in Journalism, Communications or related field
