The largest FREE Memorial Day Weekend event in the Midwest returns for its ninth year! The Kansas City Symphony, led by Music Director Michael Stern, perform patriotic favorites against the backdrop of Kansas City’s historic Union Station on Sunday, May 29 at 7:30PM. Bank of America Celebration at the Station concludes with blazing fireworks above the National WWI Museum at Liberty Memorial – Kansas City’s largest fireworks display of the year! The Kansas City Symphony is grateful to Bank of America for making this gift to our city possible.

Grounds open at 3:00PM for this free community event. Food and beverages will be available for purchase both inside and outside of Union Station. Come early to enjoy Memorial Day Weekend activities at the National WWI Museum at Liberty Memorial, and the special Diana exhibit at Union Station. At 4:30PM, pre-concert entertainment begins with the United States Air Force Brass in Blue. The Symphony takes the stage at 7:30PM for a rousing set of orchestral music to celebrate all things American, including the 1812 Overture, complete with live firing cannons! Special guests this year include Grammy-winning violinist Mark O’Connor, tenor Ben Gulley, and emcee/narrator Jim Birdsall. At 9:15PM, all heads will turn to the sky over the National WWI Museum at Liberty Memorial for a stunning display of choreographed fireworks, bursting to the beat of patriotic music. This fireworks display is one of the largest staged in the Midwest.

Bank of America Celebration at the Station also features the Kansas City preview of the National World War I Museum’s “Honoring Our History Tour” mobile museum, made possible by Waddell & Reed. The public will experience this custom 18-wheel “big rig” that has been transformed into a traveling gallery, filled with artifacts and displays from the National World War I Museum, before it embarks on a 75-city tour across the U.S.

Families attending the free outdoor performance by the Kansas City Symphony and the fireworks display are encouraged to bring blankets and lawn chairs. For those who cannot attend, Bank of America Celebration at the Station, will be broadcast live again this year on KCPT Channel 19 starting at 7:30PM on Sunday, May 29. A rebroadcast of the concert will be scheduled to air over the Fourth of July Weekend. In addition, numerous public television stations throughout the region will rebroadcast Bank of America Celebration at the Station. Check your local listings for broadcast dates and times.
