If you lived in Lawrence, KS in the eighties and nineties, chances are you have your own story or memories of the infamous author and artist William S. Burroughs.
Last Friday evening, KCPT and KU Libraries presented an evening dedicated to the long-time Lawrence resident with a screening of the documentary William S. Burroughs: A Man Within. Attendees were also able to get an up close look at first editions copies of Burroughs’ books as well as some of his personal papers, which are part of the collection at KU’s Spencer Research Library.
Biographer and literary executor of the Burroughs estate, James Grauerholz discussed Burroughs’ life in Lawrence and how director Yony Leyser worked for years to complete William S. Burroughs: A Man Within.
KCPT’s own TV Weasels Randy Mason and Don Mayberger introduced the film and shared stories of their own interviews and interactions with Burroughs.
