2012 PBS Kids GO! Writers Contest

KCPT’s 2012 PBS Kids GO! Writers Contest encourages kids to GO! Write! KCPT is once again encouraging elementary school students to stretch their creative wings by hosting the contest in the Kansas City region. For more than 15 years thousands of kids in grades K-3 have participated in this annual local and national contest. Stories can be mailed to the station or submitted online. Contest deadline is April 10, 2012. Local winners will be announced in late April and national winners will be announced in July.

Bark in the Park Family Membership Event at Paradise Park

Buddy from Dinosaur Train is coming to Sea Life Aquarium

Come meet Buddy from Dinosaur Train and take the Aquarium Discovery Tour on Saturday, January 26, 2013.

Get your picture with Buddy from Dinosaur Train and take the Dinosaur Train Discovery Tour through Sea Life Aquarium! On the self-guided tour, you’ll learn about the prehistoric ancestors of sharks, crabs and more.

Buddy will be at Sea Life Aquarium on Saturday, January 26th from 10am to 3pm. Tickets for admission to the aquarium are required and can be purchased through Sea Life Aquarium’s website. It is highly recommended that you purchase your tickets online and in advance of January 26th.

Clifford’s BIG 50th Birthday Party

This February marks the 50th anniversary of the publication of Clifford, the Big Red Dog by Norman Bridwell. That means Clifford is about 350 in dog years!

Celebrate Clifford the Big Red Dog’s 50th birthday with KCPT on Saturday, February 23, 2013 at KCPT Kids on Ice. To mark this MONUMENTAL occasion, you can skate with Clifford, sign his BIG birthday card and enjoy some special birthday treats.

Explore the Outdoors!

Ironwoods Park in Leawood, KS is hosting a Family Fun Walk on April 28th from 10am to 5pm.

Explore the outdoors this spring with a visit to a local park! As part of the nation-wide PBS Kids Explore the Outdoors campaign, Ironwoods Park in Leawood, KS will be hosting a Self-Guided Scavenger Hunt. on Saturday, April 28th from 10am to 5pm.

Stop by the Prairie Oak Nature Center in Ironwood Park to pick-up a map and instructions for a special wildlife scavenger hunt. In addition to the Nature Center, a children’s playground and trails, the park includes the Historic Oxford School House, which will be open from 11am – 2pm.

Make tracks to pbsparents.org/outdoors and see how you can make any day a PBS KIDS day in the park.

A Grrrerrific Welcome to the Neighborhood!

KCPT Family Members welcomed Daniel Tiger to our neighborhood on Friday, August 24, 2012. To celebrate the new series based on the legacy of Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood, parents and kids created their own paper trolleys, wore Daniel Tiger masks, shared snacks, watched the first ever episode of Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood and took a tour of KCPT.

KCPT’s own beloved friend P.T. the owl also made a special visit and gave each child their very own P.T. book house, with a book inside.

Haul the Family to Touch-a-Truck 2012

Join KCPT at the 3rd Annual Touch-a-Truck on June 24, 2012 from 11am-4pm at the Overland Park Convention Center!

Start revving your engines because it’s time for the 3rd Annual Touch-a-Truck! Join KCPT June 24, 2012 from 11am-4pm at the Overland Park Convention Center for this family-friendly, fun, hands-on, and educational event for kids of all ages. Stop by to see and TOUCH your favorite trucks up close! Don’t forget the camera!

Entry is FREE with two non-perishable food donations – one for each hand!

The first 200 families through the door will receive gift bags.

HOWL at the Moon and Celebrate Science City’s Newest Addition

Calling all critters, creepy crawlies and things that go bump in the night! Science City is celebrating their brand new Nature Center with a special HOWL’o'ween party on Saturday, October 27th! Come dressed as your favorite animal, see spooky science demos, make a Wild Kratts nature journal and see KCPT’s P.T. the owl! The fun starts at 4:30pm.
