In this program we look at the process of training our brains for the highest level of personal performance. By looking at individuals who have built exceptional skills through a rigorous and consistent training of their brains, we’ll also show the dangers of not keeping the brain active and challenged.
Not everyone has been happy with Science City since it opened at Union Station in 1999.
Earlier this summer the engineering firm of Burns and McDonnell gave more than a million dollars to reinvigorate the family friendly science center.
They also launched Battle of the Brains a chance for area students to design a new permanent exhibit for Science City and with it a $50,000 prize for their school. The winner?
Olathe North High School’s winning entry explores how mechanical power is transformed into energy by running in giant hamster wheels to generate electricity. They call it Unplugged.
Burns & McDonnell CEO Greg Graves and Union Station CEO George Guastello discuss the Battle of the Brains competition which had schools across the metro competing to design the new Science City exhibit.
Women, War and Peace: I Came to Testify Screening and Discussion
Date: October 5th | 5-7pm
Location: Offices of Lathrop & Gage | 2345 Grand Blvd. Suite 2200 Kansas City, MO 64108
Witness the remarkable courage of 16 Bosnian women, who broke the decades long silence of rape and war-crimes on October 5 and join us for a special screening and discussion of part one of the five-part PBS series Women, War and Peace. I Came to Testify is the moving story of how a group of 16 women who had been imprisoned and raped by Serb-led forces in the Bosnian town of Foca broke history’s great silence – and stepped forward to take the witness stand in an international court of law. Their remarkable courage resulted in a triumphant verdict that led to new international laws about sexual violence in war.
Women, War & Peace, a bold new five-part PBS mini-series, is the most comprehensive global media initiative ever mounted on the roles of women in peace and conflict.
This event is free and open to the public, but space is limited. RSVP to reserve your seat.
