Explore the iconic 1960s folk-protest music hero’s troubled life through his songs and interviews with Joan Baez, Sean Penn, Pete Seeger, Tom Hayden and others. Inspired by both Woody Guthrie and Elvis Presley, Phil Ochs was one of the most politically active singer-songwriter’s of his generation and his music is as relevant today as it was then — “I Ain’t Marching Anymore,” “Power and the Glory,” “The War Is Over,” and “There But for Fortune.” Unyielding in his political principles and unbending in his artistic vision, Ochs tirelessly fought for peace and justice throughout his short life, which ended in suicide at the age of 35.

From Lawrence, KS based director Marc Havener, the story of a man who is an ordinary father wanting to leave an extraordinary legacy. As he sets out to revisit his father’s past he hopes to help his son face the future. Set in Eastern Kansas, it’s a story of regret, of reconciliation and of hope, exploring the complex relationship between a father and son. Combining panoramic cinematography with a picture-in-picture visual composition, it blends documentary and narrative techniques to present a cinematic personal essay.

Blige, Reba McEntire, Welsh mezzo-soprano Katherine Jenkins, the Muppets and the Mormon Tabernacle Choir.

Beloved tenor Andrea Bocelli performs a free concert on Central Park’s Great Lawn, with the New York Philharmonic conducted by its music director Alan Gilbert. Joining Bocelli on stage on this memorable night are Céline Dion, Tony Bennett, Chris Botti and David Foster. Sopranos Ana María Martínez and Pretty Yende, violinist Nicola Benedetti, bass baritone Bryn Terfel and flutist Andrea Griminelli are also part of the spectacular evening, along with the Westminster Symphonic Choir, Joe Miller, director. GREAT PERFORMANCES “Andrea Bocelli in Central Park” airs as part of the PBS Arts Fall Festival.
