Watch <strong>The NY Philharmonic Opening Gala with Itzhak Perlman</strong> Thursday, September 27, 2012 at 9:30pm.

Live From Lincoln Center makes the world’s greatest artists accessible to home viewers in virtually every corner of the United States. It remains the only series of live broadcast performances on American television today.

Live From Lincoln Center’s telecast of the New York Philharmonic’s Opening Gala conducted by Music Director Alan Gilbert. The program will feature world famous violinist Itzhak Perlman performing personal favorites including Williams’ Theme from Schindler’s List and Massenet’s “Meditation” from Tha”s, as well as works by Sarasate, Tchaikovsky and Rimsky-Korsakov. The broadcast, which features extended artist profiles, will also include Respighi’s celebrated Fountains of Rome and Pines of Rome.

One Year of the KCPA: Julia Irene Kauffman & Shirley Helzberg

Julia Irene Kauffman and Shirley Helzberg reflect on the inaugural year of the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts.

It’s been a year now since the curtain opened on the much anticipated $415 million Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts. The downtown venue designed by Moshie Safdie has quickly garnered both national and international attention.

Many of the center’s shows have earned rave reviews and there have been countless sold out performances. But one year on, is it meeting expectations?

Joining us for a status report is arts leader and philanthropist Julia Irene Kauffman, who chair’s the center’s board, and Symphony Board President Shirley Helzberg.

Twenty-five years. That’s how long Paul Mesner and his puppets have been a part of the Kansas City arts scene. In fact, old favorites like Anansi the Spider, Rapunzel, and Wiley & The Hairy Man are now playing to a whole new generation of metro youngsters. But Paul’s act also spends a lot of time on the road and on some projects that might surprise you as Randy Mason discovers in this installment of our performARTS series, in conjunction with KC Studio Magazine.

Broadway or Bust – And the winner is …

Watch the final episode of Broadway or Bust Sunday, September 23, 2012 at 7pm.

The show at New York’s Minskoff Theatre is the final act and crowning highlight of the miniseries Broadway or Bust. The 60 finalists prepare for the big day. In just six hours, the lights will go up, the theater will be filled and, with the downbeat of the orchestra leader’s baton, it’ll be show time. Going into the final competition awards show, all of the judges have a short list of top contenders, but during the show itself, they’ll be asked once again to give scores to the leading performers based on the group performances and individual medleys. At intermission, the judges will cut the group to six finalists. Those six will perform their solos, and after another round, the judges will choose the two winners. In the words of director Van Kaplan, “This week … is going to shape their whole lives, whether they go into the theater or not.”
