Broadway or Bust – New 3-Part Series

Follow 60 young performers as they’re coached by Broadway talent and prepare solos for competition. Watch Sundays, September 9-23, 2012 at 7pm.

PBS is bound for Broadway with a primetime documentary series that tracks the real-life stories of America’s top high school musical performers, vying in the ultimate competition to find the nation’s best young theater stars. Part competition, part performance and part non-fiction drama, the event starts in regional theatrical programs, where judges around the country select the best performers in the country. The 60 finalists then descend on Broadway, where they plunge into the eye of the theatrical storm for one intense week of rehearsals, coaching, mentoring and cut-throat competition. After an intense final audition, finalists are selected, and these “best of the best” American high school performers take part in the grand finale of the week, the competition for The National High School Musical Theatre Awards (a.k.a. The Jimmy Awards), a one night, star-studded event held at Minskoff Theatre in June 2012. That night, the judges select and anoint the nation’s leading male and female high school musical theatre performers. Follow the build-up and the heartbreak, the drama and disappointment of BROADWAY OR BUST on PBS.

In the first episode follow 60 young performers as they’re coached by Broadway talent and prepare solos for competition.
