Mark Russell’s America

A newly produced retrospective, MARK RUSSELL’S AMERICA, pays tribute to his talent and legacy of laughter.

For three decades, humorist Mark Russell shared his insights on politics and society with public television audiences nationwide. A master of pointed one-liners and sharp-witted piano parodies, Russell remained an equal-opportunity quipster, lampooning events and newsmakers from all political persuasions. A newly produced retrospective, MARK RUSSELL’S AMERICA, pays tribute to his talent and legacy of laughter. The documentary features clips from some of Russell’s more than 100 public television specials (1975-2004). Presidential campaigns, congressional antics and defining moments from the Iran-Contra affair, the first Gulf War and the Monica Lewinski scandal provide ample comedic fodder for his poetic satire. Russell, in a present-day interview, provides context for his most memorable moments and offers humorous reminisces.

Electoral Dysfunction

Travel with political humorist Mo Rocca to see how voting works in America.
Watch Thursday, October 18, 2012 at 8:30pm.

After discovering that the Constitution does not guarantee the right to vote, political humorist Mo Rocca sets out on an irreverent road trip to see how voting works in America. Rocca — a correspondent for “CBS Sunday Morning” and a panelist on NPR’s “Wait, Wait … Don’t Tell Me!” — heads to Indiana, home to some of the strictest election laws in the country, and meets one Republican and one Democrat who take him inside their efforts to get out every vote. As he progresses on his journey, he searches for the Electoral College; critiques ballot design with Todd Oldham; investigates the debate over voter ID and voter fraud; and explores the case of a former felon who was sentenced to 10 years in prison — for the crime of voting. Eye-opening, engaging and nonpartisan, ELECTORAL DYSFUNCTION is for voters who want their votes to count.
