Woody Allen: American Masters

Delves into Woody Allen’s life and creative process.
Watch Part 1 Sunday, Nov. 20, 2011 at 8pm and Part 2 Monday, Nov. 21 at 8pm.

Gaining unprecedented access to the notoriously private film legend, Emmy Award-winner Robert Weide delves into Woody Allen’s life and creative process, from his childhood and early career through to his most recent film Midnight in Paris, in this new, two-part documentary.

Exploring the ultimate “independent filmmaker’s” writing habits, casting, directing and relationship with his actors, Weide traveled with Allen from the London set of his upcoming film You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger to Allen’s home, the editing room and his childhood haunts in the Midwood section of Brooklyn. New interviews also provide insight and backstory: actors Antonio Banderas, Josh Brolin, Penelope Cruz, John Cusack, Larry David, Mariel Hemingway, Scarlett Johansson, Julie Kavner, Diane Keaton, Martin Landau, Louise Lasser, Sean Penn, Tony Roberts, Chris Rock, Mira Sorvino, Naomi Watts, Dianne Wiest, and Owen Wilson; writing collaborators Marshall Brickman, Mickey Rose and Doug McGrath; cinematographers Gordon Willis and Vilmos Zsigmond; Allen’s sister Letty Aronson; longtime manager Jack Rollins; casting director Juliet Taylor; pals Dick Cavett and Martin Scorsese; and others.

Discovery Trails Program for Teens

An outdoor adventure in History and the Arts for teens who are blind or visually impaired.
Watch Thursday, November 17, 2011 at 8pm.

Discovery Trails is an outdoor adventure in History and the Arts for teens who are blind or visually impaired. For two weeks each summer, a dozen or more teens from several Midwestern states follow a pioneer trail across the plains and into the Rocky Mountains. The program began in 1998 and is designed fresh each year by Accessible Arts in partnership with the Kansas State School for the Blind. Artist-educators and trail historians mix imagination and creativity with authentic remnants of trail times to draw the teens into the lives of emigrants wagon-bound for the West in the mid-1800s. At the famous pioneer landmark in Wyoming, Independence Rock , we hold a rollicking field dance in the spirit of the Donner Party, who camped in the same place.

Life As A Turkey

As the chicks emerged from their shells, they locked eyes with an unusual but dedicated mother.
Watch Wednesday, November 16, 2011 at 7pm.

Based on the true story of writer and naturalist Joe Hutto, portrayed by wildlife photographer Jeff Palmer, this film chronicles Hutto’s remarkable experience of imprinting wild turkey eggs and raising the hatchlings to adulthood. Deep in the wilds of Florida, Hutto spent each day out and about as a “wild turkey” with his family of chicks — until the day came when he had to let his children grow up and go off on their own. As it turned out, this was harder than he ever imagined. Hutto’s story also became a book, Illumination in the Flatlands.
