Tribute: Jerry Litton
August 3, 2011 marks the 35th anniversary of the plane crash that killed Missouri Congressman Jerry Litton, his wife and their two children, the pilot, and the pilot’s son. Litton had just won the Democratic primary for the 1976 U.S. Senate race and was considered a rising star who was possibly on track to the White House. The Local Show screens an excerpt from the documentary, Bringing Government to the People: The Jerry Litton Dialogues, featuring footage from Litton’s trailblazing town-hall setting television program, Dialogue with Litton.

KCFAA’s Executive Director Tyrone Aiken sits down with Randy Mason to talk about making dance accessible to all people by presenting the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater and Ailey II, teaching young people critical life skills through dance, and modeling interracial and multi-cultural community partnerships.

Picture in your mind for a moment one of our area business leaders. Picture in your mind the head of one of our area corporations. Likely, you are not picturing a woman. That’s because Kansas City’s companies are almost exclusively led by men…and not just at the top. A survey in 2008 finds that a full third of Kansas City’s top 39 public companies didn’t claim a single woman among their top management teams or in their boardrooms. More than half had no women on their boards at all. And 60 percent had no women in any executive positions within their companies.
