What’s Ahead for TED: TED Talks Ed on PBS & Mike Lundgren Talks TEDxKC

We preview the TED Talks Education special which airs on PBS next week and get the inside scoop on this years TEDxKC from VML's Mike Lundgren.

Next Tuesday night at 9 p.m., PBS joins forces for the first time ever with the phenomenon known as TED to build a whole show out of talks centered around one topic—education.

Randy Mason sits down to discuss this year’s TEDxKC with the event’s organizer, Mike Lundgren. Tickets for the event will go on sale in July. TEDxKC 2013 will be held at the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts on August 20 and the theme will be Impossible: We Can Change The World If We Defy The Impossible. If all goes as planned, this will be the biggest TED event ever, knocking the event at the Sydney Opera House from the top spot.

Tickets will certainly sell out quickly, but KCPT will once again be taping the event for broadcast. Stay tuned for more details.

Pencils, paper and laptops?

Three years ago, North Kansas City joined the gadget giveaway by providing free net-books to its high schoolers. And starting this school year, students receive 11-inch MacBook Air laptops.

Everybody loves technology, but what have these school districts got to show for their massive investment? Are test scores up?

We sent reporter Danny Wood on assignment to find out if the district’s investment is paying dividends.

There’s a lot of attention being paid right now, both locally and nationally, to building our economy through technology…Startup America for example. And with the arrival of Google Fiber, it’s been a particularly hot topic in Kansas City lately.

While tech companies have been popping up all across the metro, there’s a noticeable cluster developing in the vicinity of Downtown and the Crossroads. We take you inside three tech startups, to show you more of what “the scene” looks like these days.

Another indication of just how much is going in with Kansas City’s tech scene. Last week, the first “startup” crawl event was held…shuttling the curious to a number of startups in the Crossroads and beyond.
