Join KCPT and KCUR Friday, August 28th at noon for a panel discussion on Women In Journalism, exploring the history, the challenges, and today’s landscape for women in the media. KCUR’s Gina Kaufmann, host of KCUR’s “Central Standard,” will be your host. This event is part of the annual series of city-wide discussions that make up Women’s Equality Week, this year commemorating the 95th anniversary of the Right to Vote. Join KCPT for a special sneak peek and discussion of American Experience’s new documentary Walt Disney Wednesday, September 2 at the Plaza Branch of the Kansas City Public Library.
Few creative artists before or since Walt Disney have left as deep an imprint on our culture. Nearly a half-century after his death in 1966, the man who gave us Mickey Mouse, the first feature-length animated film (Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs), and Disneyland remains an American icon.
What imprint did Disney’s early years in Marceline, Missouri, and Kansas City leave on him? On the morals and messages in his creations? Join Steven Watts in a 20-minute sneak preview at American Experience’s upcoming documentary Walt Disney, in which Watts is one of the featured historians, followed by remarks by the University of Missouri professor and author of “The Magic Kingdom: Walt Disney and the American Way of Life.” Thank You Walt Disney, Inc. will also share updates on the restoration of the Laugh-O-Gram Studios.
The program will begin at 6:30pm, preceded by a 6pm reception. RSVP via the library’s website here.
