Explore the Outdoors!

Explore the outdoors this spring with a visit to a local park! As part of the nation-wide PBS Kids Explore the Outdoors campaign, Ironwoods Park in Leawood, KS will be hosting a Self-Guided Scavenger Hunt. on Saturday, April 28th from 10am to 5pm.
Stop by the Prairie Oak Nature Center in Ironwood Park to pick-up a map and instructions for a special wildlife scavenger hunt. In addition to the Nature Center, a children’s playground and trails, the park includes the Historic Oxford School House, which will be open from 11am – 2pm.
Make tracks to pbsparents.org/outdoors and see how you can make any day a PBS KIDS day in the park.
2012 PBS Kids GO! Writers Contest

KCPT’s 2012 PBS Kids GO! Writers Contest encourages kids to GO! Write! KCPT is once again encouraging elementary school students to stretch their creative wings by hosting the contest in the Kansas City region. For more than 15 years thousands of kids in grades K-3 have participated in this annual local and national contest. Stories can be mailed to the station or submitted online. Contest deadline is April 10, 2012. Local winners will be announced in late April and national winners will be announced in July.

Scientist in the Station!

Sid the Science Kid estimates that hundreds of scientists came to see him at Kansas City’s Union Station on December 3, 2011. Families compared and contrasted appetites over a pancake breakfast, made hypotheses about the wait to get a picture with Sid and used their Official Scientist Journals to investigate Union Station’s Science City. You can print your own Official Scientist Journal.

Meet Sid the Science Kid!

Scientist in the house! Sid the Science Kid is coming to Union Station on December 3, 2011.
Enjoy a special pancake breakfast with Sid from 9am to 12pm, Tickets are $5 per person and can be purchased through Union Station’s website. Kids 2 and under are free as long as they eat from parent’s plate.
From 12 to 2pm, meet and take your picture with Sid. This portion of Sid’s visit is free and open to the public.
With purchase of breakfast, KCPT Member Card holders will receive a free ride for their children on the Jones Store Train, free admission to “Grand Canyon” at either 12 noon or 2 pm, and $5 USKC Member price admission to “America I AM” (all valid 12/3/2011 only).

BEEP BEEP! Come celebrate the Second Annual Touch-a-Truck, a family event taking place at the Overland Park Convention Center on Sunday, July 17, 2011 from 11:00 am-5:00 pm. First 200 families through the doors will recieve a swag bag with coupons and gifts from local businesses!
Presented by KCPT and 99.7 The Point the event will be a fun, hands-on, and educational event for kids of all ages to see their favorite trucks up close.
Event is FREE Admission with two (2) non-perishable food donations per person to Harvesters. One for each hand!!
