Join KCPT for a sneak preview of American Experience's "Walt Disney"

Posted on August 25, 2015 by Lindsey Foat

Few creative figures before or since Walt Disney have held such a long-lasting place in American life and popular culture. This fall, American Experience will take an unprecedented look at the complex life and enduring legacy of one of America’s best-known storytellers with the four hour documentary “Walt Disney.”

Get a sneak peek at the documentary, which features rarely seen footage and materials from the Disney archives, on September 2 at the Plaza Branch Kansas City Public Library.

Clips from the film will focus on Disney’s early years in Missouri and his establishment of the Laugh-O-Gram studio in Kansas City. Following the sneak preview, University of Missouri professor Steven Watts, who is one of the featured historians in the documentary, will discuss how the midwest influenced the man who left an indelible mark on our nation’s cultural history.

Representatives from Thank You Walt Disney, Inc. will also share updates on their efforts to restore the Laugh-O-Gram studios.

Why We Made "Walt Disney"

In this short video, Executive Producer Mark Samels explains how American Experience was able to gain unprecedented access to the Disney archives in order to tell the in-depth story of Walt Disney — without any editorial input or oversight from The Walt Disney Company.
"Walt Disney" premieres September 14 and 15 at 9/8c on PBS.
