THIS WEEK: Friday, August 27th 2010

(Rebroadcast Sunday @ 11 am)

The Week in Review set is back and so are some of our metro’s top reporters and columnists. It’s a low-nonsense, high insight edition of the program.

PLAZA OFFICE BUILDING CONTROVERSY: Why is taking down a small section of the Country Club Plaza leading to unrest, mouth foaming indignation and howls of protest?

DRIVEWAY TAX: Some scoffed that it was just a half-baked idea to try and bring in more money. But it’s now reality.  The City of Mission moves forward and greenlights a “driveway tax” that will cost the average homeowner more than $70 a year and larger businesses up to $60,000 a year.

THE ENTHUSIASM GAP:  A front page story in the Kansas City Star examines the widening enthusiasm gap between Republican and Democratic voters and its impact on fall elections in our region.

HOME SALES PLUNGE: Sales of homes in July are at a 15 year low nationwide. But metro Kansas City records the 2nd steepest drop anywhere in the country.

THE BUSINESS EXODUS: Two Kansas City employers recently announced they were moving from KCMO and setting up shop on the other side of state line at the Sprint campus in Overland Park. Is the National Association of Insurance Commissioners next? The 10-year tenant at Crown Center is weighing up a move to Overland Park and taking with it 460 good-paying jobs

SLEEPING ON THE JOB:  Every TV station covered the story. So did the Kansas City Star. It’s the video from an average Kansas City citizen who confronts KCMO Water Department employees sleeping on the job. Is it an example of effective citizen journalism or a troubling trend?
