It still seems uncertain whether a petition drive by the Citizens for Responsible Government seeking a public vote on the proposed Downtown Convention Hotel will be on the ballot. City officials contend that contracts already signed for the project preclude further action. There appears to be continued debate over that question. The last time Steve Glorioso appeared on Ruckus he said the petition drive was a moot issue. The hotel question was resolved. Is that still the case?
The FBI is investigating allegations of prisoner mistreatment by guards and others at the Jackson County Jail. County Executive Mike Sanders has named a task force--headed by Alvin Brooks---to investigate. As the KC Star notes editorially, FBI investigations often lead to "bad news and embarrassing revelations." Clearly, the FBI outcome will reflect on the Jackson County administration, notably County Executive Mike Sanders. Do you think Sanders' reputation as a strong manager will survive the FBI probe?
At least five top-tier candidates now say they're running for the GOP gubernatorial nomination in Missouri. From a positive perspective, that's a sign of party strength. A less positive perspective would suggest that a rough primary will hurt the party in the 2016 election and deprive the GOP of the Governor's Mansion. The five candidates highlighted in the Star story about the race: Eric Grietens, Catherine Hannaway, Peter Kinder, Bob Dixon and John Bruner. At this early stage of the campaign, is there a favorite among GOP insiders?
