While the airlines and Mayor James support the idea of a new one-terminal airport replacing the current structure, other council persons and vocal members of the community oppose it. Opponents of a new structure want the current facility renovated, primarily to assure the airport's convenience is maintained. It's virtually impossible to compromise between renovation and rebuilding. Facing low voter support for a new terminal, James decided that the issue will not go on a ballot this year.
Downtown streetcar service begins officially on Friday after months of testing. The system is presumably designed for two major purposes: 1) enhance downtown economic development; and 2) stimulate interest in extending streetcar service to other parts of Kansas City. Supporters believe the streetcars will fulfill those goals. Critics of the system and the election process that made it possible claim it's unnecessary and a waste of tax dollars. Which side is right and how soon will we know the answer?
Influential conservative columnist and commentator George Will urges conservatives and Republicans to do the following in this year's presidential election if Donald Trump is the GOP nominee: 1) Work to defeat him. 2) Work to ensure Republicans maintain dominance in the U.S. House and Senate. 3) Work to make the Democratic nominee a one-term president. Will conservatives listen to Will?
